Asli Özok's Fish Flocks series, part of the larger body of work entitled Barcode, explores the globalized nature of symbols in our modern society, particularly focusing on the pervasive influence of consumerism and various brands worldwide. Within the context of these paintings, the shoal of fish symbolically represents humanity, portraying our collective existence as a swimming mass, lacking unity or coordinated formation. As a flock, we exhibit impulsive behavior, influenced by the brands that bestow upon us new identities and badges to display to others.
