The Turkish artist Asli Özok explores the consumerist fever in her exhibition titled 'Codes,' where she utilizes various visual languages.
Seville - The main headquarters of Radio Television of Andalusia (RTVA) in Seville has been hosting the 'Codes' exhibition since last Friday, which is an attractive and revealing showcase of the work by Turkish artist Asli Özok. The exhibition highlights, with a profound and erotic sense, the confusion dominating the contemporary world due to the mechanisms of consumerism, leaving individuals incapable of defining their personal and collective identities.
The artist presents 33 oil paintings on canvas, suggesting the necessity for social transformations and exploring the exaltation of consumption. Through geometric overlays of religious icons and images from modern society, Özok disrupts the predictability of forms using a series of permutations that allow the codes to communicate with each other.
Her paintings explore endless points, intersections, memories, photos, and religious images in consumer society. It portrays an overwhelming reality in the face of the inability to reconcile ideologies and feelings that cannot be bought. As the artist herself puts it, "Consumerism, fueled to fulfill emotional needs, is a messy precedent of images, people, animals, objects, and ideologies, all superimposed by real barcodes, duly separated and classified."
International Reach
Asli Özok was born in Ankara, Turkey, and completed her Bachelor's in Fine Arts at Mimar Sinan University (Istanbul) in the Department of Painting between 1998 and 2003. She obtained her Master's degree at the same university between 2003 and 2006. Currently, she is completing her Ph.D. at the University of Seville and works as an assistant in the Department of Painting at the Fine Arts faculty of the mentioned university.
She has participated in numerous collective exhibitions and different international symposiums (Istanbul, Sofia, Chisinau, Lisbon, Seville, Nuremberg, Chicago, etc.). Some of her works are part of private collections, foundations, banks, and art galleries. Her work has received numerous recognitions, including winning the first prize at the American Accenture Art Fair in 2001 (United States).
Özok also participated in the restoration of the Hagia Sophia Museum (Istanbul) in 2009, the International Art Biennial of Izmir, and the International Biennial of Contemporary Art in Florence (Italy).
The 'Codes' exhibition will be open to the public until April 30, 2011, during the following hours: from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM and from 6:00 PM to 9:00 PM on weekdays, and from 11:00 AM to 2:00 PM on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.

'Códigos' es el título de la exposición en la que la pintora se sirve de diversos lenguajes plásticos
Sevilla * la sede central de Radio Televisión de andalucía (RTVA) en sevilla acoge desde el pasado viernes la exposición Códigos, una atractiva y reveladora muestra del trabajo de la artista turca Asli Ozok, donde quedan de manifiesto con un alto sentido erftico la confusión que preside el mundo actual por los mecanismos del consumismo e incapaz de definir su identidad personal y colectiva.
La maestra reúne 33 óleos sobre lienzo en los que la artista sugiere la necesidad de transformaciones sociales y explora la exaltación del consumo. A través de superposiciones geométricas de iconos religiosos e imágenes de la sociedad actual, ozok rompe la previsibilidad de las formas a través de una serie de permutaciones en las que los códigos hablan entre sí.
Su pintura explora infinitos puntos, cruces, recuerdos, fotos, e imágenes religiosas, en la sociedad de consumo. Una realidad desbordada, ante la incapacidad de conjugar las ideologías y los sentimientos que no se pueden comprar.
En palabras de la propia pintora, “el consumismo alentado para satisfacer las necesidades emocionales es una precede desordenada de imágenes, personas, animales, objetos y de ideologías, todos superpuestos por códigos de barras reales, debidamente separados y clasificados.
Proyecon international
Asli ozok nace en Ankara (Turquía.) y completa su licenciatura en Bellas Artes en la Mimar Sinan Universidad (Estambul) en el departamento de pintura, entre 1998-2003. Obtiene su título de maestra en esta universidad entre 2003-2006. Actualmente completa su doctorado en la Universidad de Sevilla. Trabaja como asistente del departamento de pintura en bellas artes en la citada universidad.
Ha participado en múltiples exposiciones colectivas y en diferentes simposios internacionales (estambul, sofia, chisinau, lisboa, sevilla, nuremberg, chicago…)
Algunas de sus obras forman parte de colecciones privadas, fundaciones, bancos y galerías de arte. Su trabajo ha obtenido numerosos reconocimientos, des trabajando el primer premio en la american accenture feria de arte 2001 (estados unidos)
Ozok también ha participado en la restauración del Museo Santa Sofía (Estambul) 2009, en la bienal de arte internacional de Esmirna (Izmir), y la bienal internacional de arte contemporáneo de Florencia (Italia.)
La exposición de códigos permanece abierta al público hasta el 30 de abril de 2011 con el siguiente horario: de 11:00 a 14:00 horas y de 18:00 a 21:00 horas lunes a viernes y de 11:00 a 14:00 horas los sábados, domingos y festivos.
